Make the "wakeup" property introduced in commit 9826fd597df
("suspend: make serial ports wakeup the guest") a boolean.
As we want to reuse the generic serial properties in the
ISA model (next commit), expose this property.

The serial_mm_read/write() handlers from the TYPE_SERIAL_MM device
call the serial_ioport_read/write() handlers with shifted offset.
When looking at the trace events from this MMIO device, it is
confusing to read the accesses as I/O. Simplify using generic
trace event names which make sense the various uses.

The serial device has 8 registers, each 8-bit. The MemoryRegionOps
'serial_io_ops' is initialized with max_access_size=1, and all
memory_region_init_io() callers correctly set the region size to
8 bytes:
- serial_io_realize
- serial_isa_realizefn
- serial_pci_realize
- multi_serial_pci_realize
It is safe to assert the offset argument of serial_ioport_read()
and serial_ioport_write() is always less than 8.

Not exactly elegant, I'm afraid.
The "when != lbl:" is necessary to avoid transforming
if (fun(args, &err)) {
goto out
}
...
out:
error_propagate(errp, err);
even though other paths to label out still need the error_propagate().
For an actual example, see sclp_realize().
Without the "when strict", Coccinelle transforms vfio_msix_setup(),
incorrectly. I don't know what exactly "when strict" does, only that
it helps here.
The match of return is narrower than what I want, but I can't figure
out how to express "return where the operand doesn't use @err". For
an example where it's too narrow, see vfio_intx_enable().

Rename object_initialize_child() to

Devices may have component devices and buses.
Device realization may fail. Realization is recursive: a device's
realize() method realizes its components, and device_set_realized()
realizes its buses (which should in turn realize the devices on that
bus, except bus_set_realized() doesn't implement that, yet).
When realization of a component or bus fails, we need to roll back:
unrealize everything we realized so far. If any of these unrealizes
failed, the device would be left in an inconsistent state. Must not
happen.
device_set_realized() lets it happen: it ignores errors in the roll
back code starting at label child_realize_fail.
Since realization is recursive, unrealization must be recursive, too.
But how could a partly failed unrealize be rolled back? We'd have to
re-realize, which can fail. This design is fundamentally broken.
device_set_realized() does not roll back at all. Instead, it keeps
unrealizing, ignoring further errors.
It can screw up even for a device with no buses: if the lone
dc->unrealize() fails, it still unregisters vmstate, and calls
listeners' unrealize() callback.
bus_set_realized() does not roll back either. Instead, it stops
unrealizing.
Fortunately, no unrealize method can fail, as we'll see below.
To fix the design error, drop parameter @errp from all the unrealize
methods.
Any unrealize method that uses @errp now needs an update. This leads
us to unrealize() methods that can fail. Merely passing it to another
unrealize method cannot cause failure, though. Here are the ones that
do other things with @errp:
* virtio_serial_device_unrealize()
Fails when qbus_set_hotplug_handler() fails, but still does all the
other work. On failure, the device would stay realized with its
resources completely gone. Oops. Can't happen, because
qbus_set_hotplug_handler() can't actually fail here. Pass
&error_abort to qbus_set_hotplug_handler() instead.
* hw/ppc/spapr_drc.c's unrealize()
Fails when object_property_del() fails, but all the other work is
already done. On failure, the device would stay realized with its
vmstate registration gone. Oops. Can't happen, because
object_property_del() can't actually fail here. Pass &error_abort
to object_property_del() instead.
* spapr_phb_unrealize()
Fails and bails out when remove_drcs() fails, but other work is
already done. On failure, the device would stay realized with some
of its resources gone. Oops. remove_drcs() fails only when
chassis_from_bus()'s object_property_get_uint() fails, and it can't
here. Pass &error_abort to remove_drcs() instead.
Therefore, no unrealize method can fail before this patch.
device_set_realized()'s recursive unrealization via bus uses
object_property_set_bool(). Can't drop @errp there, so pass
&error_abort.
We similarly unrealize with object_property_set_bool() elsewhere,
always ignoring errors. Pass &error_abort instead.
Several unrealize methods no longer handle errors from other unrealize
methods: virtio_9p_device_unrealize(),
virtio_input_device_unrealize(), scsi_qdev_unrealize(), ...
Much of the deleted error handling looks wrong anyway.
One unrealize methods no longer ignore such errors:
usb_ehci_pci_exit().
Several realize methods no longer ignore errors when rolling back:
v9fs_device_realize_common(), pci_qdev_unrealize(),
spapr_phb_realize(), usb_qdev_realize(), vfio_ccw_realize(),
virtio_device_realize().

After c9808d60281 we have both an object representing the serial-isa
device and a separate object representing the underlying common serial
uart. Both of these have vmsd's associated with them and thus the
migration stream ends up with two copies of the migration data - the
serial-isa includes the vmstate of the core serial. Besides
being wrong, it breaks backwards migration compatibility.
Fix this by removing the dc->vmsd from the core device, so it only
gets migrated by any parent devices including it.
Add a vmstate_serial_mm so that any device that uses serial_mm_init
rather than creating a device still gets migrated.
(That doesn't fix backwards migration for serial_mm_init users,
but does seem to work forwards for ppce500).

The Chardev events are listed in the QEMUChrEvent enum.
By using the enum in the IOEventHandler typedef we:
- make the IOEventHandler type more explicit (this handler
process out-of-band information, while the IOReadHandler
is in-band),
- help static code analyzers.
This patch was produced with the following spatch script:
@match@
expression backend, opaque, context, set_open;
identifier fd_can_read, fd_read, fd_event, be_change;
@@
qemu_chr_fe_set_handlers(backend, fd_can_read, fd_read, fd_event,
be_change, opaque, context, set_open);
@depends on match@
identifier opaque, event;
identifier match.fd_event;
@@
static
-void fd_event(void *opaque, int event)
+void fd_event(void *opaque, QEMUChrEvent event)
{
...
}
Then the typedef was modified manually in
include/chardev/char-fe.h.

Migration from old to new code works, however the other way fails for
devices that use serial_init/serial_mm_init with "base", used as
instance_id previously.
(with qdev_set_legacy_instance_id, the alias_id is only used in
savevm.c:find_se(), and thus can only be used to match against
"legacy" instance id values. On new code, instance_id is generated
incrementally from 0 with calculate_new_instance_id(), based on

Make SerialState a device (the following patches will introduce IO/MM
sysbus serial devices)
None of the serial_{,mm}_init() callers actually free the returned

However, the devices that embed SerialState must now have their field
QOM-initialized manually (isa, pci, pci-multi).

sysemu/sysemu.h is a rather unfocused dumping ground for stuff related
to the system-emulator. Evidence:
* It's included widely: in my "build everything" tree, changing
sysemu/sysemu.h still triggers a recompile of some 1100 out of 6600
objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on
qemu/osdep.h, down from 5400 due to the previous two commits).
* It pulls in more than a dozen additional headers.
Split stuff related to run state management into its own header
sysemu/runstate.h.
Touching sysemu/sysemu.h now recompiles some 850 objects. qemu/uuid.h
also drops from 1100 to 850, and qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h from 4400
to 4200. Touching new sysemu/runstate.h recompiles some 500 objects.
Since I'm touching MAINTAINERS to add sysemu/runstate.h anyway, also
add qemu/main-loop.h.

In my "build everything" tree, changing sysemu/sysemu.h triggers a
recompile of some 5400 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and
objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h).
Almost a third of its inclusions are actually superfluous. Delete
them. Downgrade two more to qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h, and move one
from char/serial.h to char/serial.c.
hw/semihosting/config.c, monitor/monitor.c, qdev-monitor.c, and
stubs/semihost.c define variables declared in sysemu/sysemu.h without
including it. The compiler is cool with that, but include it anyway.
This doesn't reduce actual use much, as it's still included into
widely included headers. The next commit will tackle that.

The qmp/hmp command 'system_wakeup' is simply a direct call to
'qemu_system_wakeup_request' from vl.c. This function verifies if
runstate is SUSPENDED and if the wake up reason is valid before
proceeding. However, no error or warning is thrown if any of those
pre-requirements isn't met. There is no way for the caller to
differentiate between a successful wakeup or an error state caused
when trying to wake up a guest that wasn't suspended.
This means that system_wakeup is silently failing, which can be
considered a bug. Adding error handling isn't an API break in this
case - applications that didn't check the result will remain broken,
the ones that check it will have a chance to deal with it.
Adding to that, the commit before previous created a new QMP API called
query-current-machine, with a new flag called wakeup-suspend-support,
that indicates if the guest has the capability of waking up from suspended
state. Although such guest will never reach SUSPENDED state and erroring
it out in this scenario would suffice, it is more informative for the user
to differentiate between a failure because the guest isn't suspended versus
a failure because the guest does not have support for wake up at all.
All this considered, this patch changes qmp_system_wakeup to check if
the guest is capable of waking up from suspend, and if it is suspended.
After this patch, this is the output of system_wakeup in a guest that
does not have wake-up from suspend support (ppc64):
(qemu) system_wakeup
wake-up from suspend is not supported by this guest
(qemu)
And this is the output of system_wakeup in a x86 guest that has the
support but isn't suspended:
(qemu) system_wakeup
Unable to wake up: guest is not in suspended state
(qemu)

Commit 0147883450fe84bb8de2d4a58381881f4262ce9b tries to handle
word-sized writes to DLL/DLH, but due to a typo,
this patch is causing tracebacks in all Linux kernels running the PXA
serial driver, due to an unexpected DLL register value. Here is the
surrounding code from drivers/tty/serial/pxa.c:
serial_out(up, UART_DLL, quot & 0xff); /* LS of divisor */
/*
* work around Errata #75 according to Intel(R) PXA27x
* Processor Family Specification Update (Nov 2005)
*/
dll = serial_in(up, UART_DLL);

Only retry on serial_xmit if qemu_chr_fe_write returns 0, as this is the
only recoverable error.
Retrying with any other scenario, in addition to being a waste of CPU
cycles, can compromise the Guest stability if by the vCPU issuing the
write and the main loop thread are, by chance or explicit pinning,
running on the same pCPU.

Currently the serial.c realize code has an explicit check that it is not
connected to a disconnected backend (ie one with a NULL chardev).
This isn't what we want -- you should be able to create a serial device
even if it isn't attached to anything. Remove the check.

Modify the pre_save method on VMStateDescription to return an int
rather than void so that it potentially can fail.
Changed zillions of devices to make them return 0; the only
case I've made it return non-0 is hw/intc/s390_flic_kvm.c that already
had an error_report/return case.
Note: If you add an error exit in your pre_save you must emit
an error_report to say why.

This allows to change the port's backend runtime, e.g. change it from
file to a socket making it possible to establish a debug session with
WinDbg
> qemu-system [..] -chardev file,id=charchannel2,path=/tmp/charchannel2 \
-device isa-serial,chardev=charchannel2,id=channel2
QEMU 2.9.50 monitor - type 'help' for more information
(qemu) chardev-change charchannel2 \
socket,host=127.0.0.1,port=4242,server,nowait
For a backend change, a number of ioctls has to be replayed to sync
the current setup of a frontend to a backend tty. This is hopefully
enough so we don't have to track, store and replay the whole original
control byte sequence.
