| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In my "build everything" tree, changing migration/vmstate.h triggers a recompile of some 2700 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h). hw/hw.h supposedly includes it for convenience. Several other headers include it just to get VMStateDescription. The previous commit made that unnecessary. Include migration/vmstate.h only where it's still needed. Touching it now recompiles only some 1600 objects. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Back in 2016, we discussed[1] rules for headers, and these were generally liked: 1. Have a carefully curated header that's included everywhere first. We got that already thanks to Peter: osdep.h. 2. Headers should normally include everything they need beyond osdep.h. If exceptions are needed for some reason, they must be documented in the header. If all that's needed from a header is typedefs, put those into qemu/typedefs.h instead of including the header. 3. Cyclic inclusion is forbidden. This patch gets include/ closer to obeying 2. It's actually extracted from my "[RFC] Baby steps towards saner headers" series[2], which demonstrates a possible path towards checking 2 automatically. It passes the RFC test there. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Our pflash devices are simplistically modelled has having "num-blocks" sectors of equal size "sector-length". Real hardware commonly has sectors of different sizes. How our "sector-length" property is related to the physical device's multiple sector sizes is unclear. Helper functions pflash_cfi01_register() and pflash_cfi02_register() create a pflash device, set properties including "sector-length" and "num-blocks", and realize. They take parameters @size, @sector_len and @nb_blocs. QOMification left parameter @size unused. Obviously, @size should match @sector_len and @nb_blocs, i.e. size == sector_len * nb_blocs. All callers satisfy this. Remove @nb_blocs and compute it from @size and @sector_len. This can hide type errors, such as passing a pflash_t created with pflash_cfi02_register() to pflash_cfi01_get_memory(). Furthermore, POSIX reserves typedef names ending with _t. Rename the two structs to PFlashCFI01 and PFlashCFI02. Convert them, and drop direct includes of inappropriate headers. Just four uses of BlockDriverState are left: * The Xen paravirtual block device backend (xen_disk.c) opens images itself when set up via xenbus, bypassing blockdev.c. I figure it should go through qmp_blockdev_add() instead. * Device model "usb-storage" prompts for keys. No other device model does, and this one probably shouldn't do it, either. * ide_issue_trim_cb() uses bdrv_aio_discard() instead of blk_aio_discard() because it fishes its backend out of a BlockAIOCB, which has only the BlockDriverState. * PC87312State has an unused BlockDriverState[] member. * hw: move headers to include/Paolo Bonzini2013-04-081-0/+64
Many of these should be cleaned up with proper qdev-/QOM-ification. Right now there are many catch-all headers in include/hw/ARCH depending on cpu.h, and this makes it necessary to compile these files per-target. However, fixing this does not belong in these patches.
