* migration: add new migration state wait-unplugJens Freimann2019-10-291-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch adds a new migration state called wait-unplug. It is entered after the SETUP state if failover devices are present. It will transition into ACTIVE once all devices were succesfully unplugged from the guest. So if a guest doesn't respond or takes long to honor the unplug request the user will see the migration state 'wait-unplug'. In the migration thread we query failover devices if they're are still pending the guest unplug. When all are unplugged the migration continues. If one device won't unplug migration will stay in wait_unplug state. * migration: Support gtree migrationEric Auger2019-10-111-0/+40
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Introduce support for GTree migration. A custom save/restore is implemented. Each item is made of a key and a data. If the key is a pointer to an object, 2 VMSDs are passed into the GTree VMStateField. When putting the items, the tree is traversed in sorted order by g_tree_foreach. On the get() path, gtrees must be allocated using the proper key compare, key destroy and value destroy. This must be handled beforehand, for example in a pre_load method. Tests are added to test save/dump of structs containing gtrees including the virtio-iommu domain/mappings scenario. * migration: Move the VMStateDescription typedef to typedefs.hMarkus Armbruster2019-08-161-1/+0Star
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We declare incomplete struct VMStateDescription in a couple of places so we don't have to include migration/vmstate.h for the typedef. That's fine with me. However, the next commit will drop migration/vmstate.h from a massive number of compiles. Move the typedef to qemu/typedefs.h now, so I don't have to insert struct in front of VMStateDescription all over the place then. * vmstate.h: Type check VMSTATE_STRUCT_VARRAY macrosPeter Maydell2019-07-261-6/+24
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The VMSTATE_STRUCT_VARRAY_UINT32 macro is intended to handle migrating a field which is an array of structs, but where instead of migrating the entire array we only migrate a variable number of elements of it. The VMSTATE_STRUCT_VARRAY_POINTER_UINT32 macro is intended to handle migrating a field which is of pointer type, and points to a dynamically allocated array of structs of variable size. We weren't actually checking that the field passed to VMSTATE_STRUCT_VARRAY_UINT32 really is an array, with the result that accidentally using it where the _POINTER_ macro was intended would compile but silently corrupt memory on migration. Add type-checking that enforces that the field passed in is really of the right array type. This applies to all the VMSTATE macros which use flags including VMS_VARRAY_* but not VMS_POINTER. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Since commit 83ee768d6247b, we now have two places that define the QJSON type: $ git grep 'typedef struct QJSON QJSON' include/migration/vmstate.h:typedef struct QJSON QJSON; migration/qjson.h:typedef struct QJSON QJSON; This breaks docker-test-build@centos6: In file included from /tmp/qemu-test/src/migration/savevm.c:59: /tmp/qemu-test/src/migration/qjson.h:16: error: redefinition of typedef 'QJSON' /tmp/qemu-test/src/include/migration/vmstate.h:30: note: previous declaration of 'QJSON' was here make: *** [migration/savevm.o] Error 1 This happens because CentOS 6 has an old GCC 4.4.7. Even if redefining a typedef with the same type is permitted since GCC 4.6, unless -pedantic is passed, we don't really need to do that on purpose. * pci/bus: let it has higher migration priorityPeter Xu2018-02-081-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In the past, we prioritized IOMMU migration so that we have such a priority order: IOMMU > PCI Devices When migrating a guest with both vIOMMU and a pcie-root-port, we'll always migrate vIOMMU first, since pci buses will be seen to have the same priority of general PCI devices. That's problematic. The thing is that PCI bus number information is stored in the root port, and that is needed by vIOMMU during post_load(), e.g., to figure out context entry for a device. If we don't have correct bus numbers for devices, we won't be able to recover device state of the DMAR memory regions, and things will be messed up. So let's boost the PCIe root ports to be even with higher priority: PCIe Root Port > IOMMU > PCI Devices A smoke test shows that this patch fixes bug 1538953. Also, apply this rule to all the PCI bus/bridge devices: ioh3420, xio3130_downstream, xio3130_upstream, pcie_pci_bridge, pci-pci bridge, i82801b11. I noted that we set pcie_pci_bridge_dev_vmstate twice. Clean that up together. CC: Alex Williamson <alex.williamson@redhat.com> CC: Marcel Apfelbaum <marcel@redhat.com> CC: Michael S. |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In migration codes (especially in migration_thread()), max_size is used in many place for the threshold value that we will start to do the final flush and jump to the next stage to dump the whole rest things to destination. However its name is confusing to first readers. Let's rename it to "threshold_size" when proper and add a comment for it. No functional change is made. * migration/vmstate: fix array of ptr with nullptrsHalil Pasic2017-02-281-0/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Make VMS_ARRAY_OF_POINTER cope with null pointers. Previously the reward for trying to migrate an array with some null pointers in it was an illegal memory access, that is a swift and painless death of the process. Let's make vmstate cope with this scenario. The general approach is, when we encounter a null pointer (element), instead of following the pointer to save/load the data behind it, we save/load a placeholder. This way we can detect if we expected a null pointer at the load side but not null data was saved instead. * migration: Add VMSTATE_WITH_TMPDr. David Alan Gilbert2017-02-131-0/+19
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | VMSTATE_WITH_TMP is for handling structures where some calculation or rearrangement of the data needs to be performed before the data hits the wire. For example, where the value on the wire is an offset from a non-migrated base, but the data in the structure is the actual pointer. To use it, a temporary type is created and a vmsd used on that type. The first element of the type must be 'parent' a pointer back to the type of the main structure. VMSTATE_WITH_TMP takes care of allocating and freeing the temporary before running the child vmsd. The post_load/pre_save on the child vmsd can copy things from the parent to the temporary using the parent pointer and do any other calculations needed; it can then use normal VMSD entries to do the actual data storage without having to fiddle around with qemu_get_*/qemu_put_* Signed-off-by: Dr. David Alan Gilbert <dgilbert@redhat.com> Reviewed-by: David Gibson <david@gibson.dropbear.id.au> Reviewed-by: Juan Quintela <quintela@redhat.com> Message-Id: <20170203160651.19917-3-dgilbert@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Dr. David Alan Gilbert <dgilbert@redhat.com>

* migration: consolidate VMStateField.startHalil Pasic2017-02-131-13/+8Star
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The member VMStateField.start is used for two things, partial data migration for VBUFFER data (basically provide migration for a sub-buffer) and for locating next in QTAILQ. The implementation of the VBUFFER feature is broken when VMSTATE_ALLOC is used. This however goes unnoticed because actually partial migration for VBUFFER is not used at all. Let's consolidate the usage of VMStateField.start by removing support for partial migration for VBUFFER. * migration: migrate QTAILQJianjun Duan2017-01-241-0/+20
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently we cannot directly transfer a QTAILQ instance because of the limitation in the migration code. Here we introduce an approach to transfer such structures. We created VMStateInfo vmstate_info_qtailq for QTAILQ. Similar VMStateInfo can be created for other data structures such as list. When a QTAILQ is migrated from source to target, it is appended to the corresponding QTAILQ structure, which is assumed to have been properly initialized. This approach will be used to transfer pending_events and ccs_list in spapr state. We also create some macros in qemu/queue.h to access a QTAILQ using pointer arithmetic. This ensures that we do not depend on the implementation details about QTAILQ in the migration code. * migration: allow to prioritize save state entriesPeter Xu2017-01-101-0/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | During migration, save state entries are saved/loaded without a specific order - we just traverse the savevm_state.handlers list and do it one by one. This might not be enough. There are requirements that we need to load specific device's vmstate first before others. For example, VT-d IOMMU contains DMA address remapping information, which is required by all the PCI devices to do address translations. We need to make sure IOMMU's device state is loaded before the rest of the PCI devices, so that DMA address translation can work properly. This patch provide a VMStateDescription.priority value to allow specify the priority of the saved states. The loadvm operation will be done with those devices with higher vmsd priority. Before this patch, we are possibly achieving the ordering requirement by an assumption that the ordering will be the same with the ordering that objects are created. A better way is to mark it out explicitly in the VMStateDescription table, like what this patch does. Current ordering logic is still naive and slow, but after all that's not a critical path so IMO it's a workable solution for now. Signed-off-by: Peter Xu <peterx@redhat.com> Reviewed-by: Michael S.
