* kbuild: add symbol prefix arg to kallsymsJames Hogan2012-09-111-1/+0Star
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit 1f2bfbd00e466ff3489b2ca5cc75b1cccd14c123 ("kbuild: link of vmlinux moved to a script") introduced in v3.5-rc1 broke kallsyms on architectures which have symbol prefixes. The --symbol-prefix argument used to be added to the KALLSYMS command line from the architecture Makefile, however this isn't picked up by the new scripts/link-vmlinux.sh. This resulted in symbols like kallsyms_addresses being added which weren't correctly overriding the weak symbols such as _kallsyms_addresses. These could then trigger BUG_ONs in kallsyms code. This is fixed by removing the KALLSYMS addition from the architecture Makefile, and using CONFIG_SYMBOL_PREFIX in the link-vmlinux.sh script to determine whether to add the --symbol-prefix argument. | * blackfin: Use generic init_taskThomas Gleixner2012-05-051-2/+0Star
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Same code. Use the generic version. The special Makefile treatment is pointless anyway as init_task.o contains only data which is handled by the linker script. * | kbuild: allow assignment to {A,C,LD}FLAGS_MODULE on the command lineSam Ravnborg2010-08-031-2/+2
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | It is now possible to assign options to AS, CC and LD on the command line - which is only used when building modules. {A,C,LD}FLAGS_MODULE was all used both in the top-level Makefile in the arch makefiles, thus users had no way to specify additional options to AS, CC, LD when building modules without overriding the original value. Introduce a new set of variables KBUILD_{A,C,LD}FLAGS_MODULE that is used by arch specific files and free up {A,C,LD}FLAGS_MODULE so they can be assigned on the command line. All arch Makefiles that used the old variables has been updated. Note: Previously we had a MODFLAGS variable for both AS and CC. But in favour of consistency this was dropped. So in some cases arch Makefile has one assignmnet replaced by two assignmnets. Note2: MODFLAGS was not documented and is dropped without any notice. I do not expect much/any breakage from this. * kbuild: use INSTALLKERNEL to select customized installkernel scriptSam Ravnborg2009-09-201-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Replace the use of CROSS_COMPILE to select a customized installkernel script with the possibility to set INSTALLKERNEL to select a custom installkernel script when running make: make INSTALLKERNEL=arm-installkernel install With this patch we are now more consistent across different architectures - they did not all support use of CROSS_COMPILE. The use of CROSS_COMPILE was a hack as this really belongs to gcc/binutils and the installkernel script does not change just because we change toolchain. The use of CROSS_COMPILE caused troubles with an upcoming patch that saves CROSS_COMPILE when a kernel is built - it would no longer be installable. [Thanks to Peter Z. for this hint] This patch undos what Ian did in commit: 0f8e2d62fa04441cd12c08ce521e84e5bd3f8a46 ("use ${CROSS_COMPILE}installkernel in arch/*/boot/install.sh") The patch has been lightly tested on x86 only - but all changes looks obvious. This adds support for the Analog Devices Blackfin processor architecture, and currently supports the BF533, BF532, BF531, BF537, BF536, BF534, and BF561 (Dual Core) devices, with a variety of development platforms including those avaliable from Analog Devices (BF533-EZKit, BF533-STAMP, BF537-STAMP, BF561-EZKIT), and Bluetechnix! Tinyboards. The Blackfin architecture was jointly developed by Intel and Analog Devices Inc. (ADI) as the Micro Signal Architecture (MSA) core and introduced it in December of 2000. Since then ADI has put this core into its Blackfin processor family of devices. The Blackfin core has the advantages of a clean, orthogonal,RISC-like microprocessor instruction set. It combines a dual-MAC (Multiply/Accumulate), state-of-the-art signal processing engine and single-instruction, multiple-data (SIMD) multimedia capabilities into a single instruction-set architecture. The Blackfin architecture, including the instruction set, is described by the ADSP-BF53x/BF56x Blackfin Processor Programming Reference http://blackfin.uclinux.org/gf/download/frsrelease/29/2549/Blackfin_PRM.pdf The Blackfin processor is already supported by major releases of gcc, and there are binary and source rpms/tarballs for many architectures at: http://blackfin.uclinux.org/gf/project/toolchain/frs There is complete documentation, including "getting started" guides available at: http://docs.blackfin.uclinux.org/ which provides links to the sources and patches you will need in order to set up a cross-compiling environment for bfin-linux-uclibc This patch, as well as the other patches (toolchain, distribution, uClibc) are actively supported by Analog Devices Inc, at: http://blackfin.uclinux.org/ We have tested this on LTP, and our test plan (including pass/fails) can be found at: http://docs.blackfin.uclinux.org/doku.php?id=testing_the_linux_kernel [m.kozlowski@tuxland.pl: balance parenthesis in blackfin header files] Signed-off-by: Bryan Wu <bryan.wu@analog.com> Signed-off-by: Mariusz Kozlowski <m.kozlowski@tuxland.pl> Signed-off-by: Aubrey Li <aubrey.li@analog.com> Signed-off-by: Jie Zhang <jie.zhang@analog.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
