getname() is intended to copy pathname strings from userspace into a
kernel buffer. The result is just a string in kernel space. It would
however be quite helpful to be able to attach some ancillary info to
the string.
For instance, we could attach some audit-related info to reduce the
amount of audit-related processing needed. When auditing is enabled,
we could also call getname() on the string more than once and not
need to recopy it from userspace.
This patchset converts the getname()/putname() interfaces to return
a struct instead of a string. For now, the struct just tracks the
string in kernel space and the original userland pointer for it.
Later, we'll add other information to the struct as it becomes
convenient.

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/konrad/xen
Pull Xen fixes from Konrad Rzeszutek Wilk:
"This has four bug-fixes and one tiny feature that I forgot to put
initially in my tree due to oversight.
The feature is for kdump kernels to speed up the /proc/vmcore reading.
There is a ram_is_pfn helper function that the different platforms can
register for. We are now doing that.
The bug-fixes cover some embarrassing struct pv_cpu_ops variables
being set to NULL on Xen (but not baremetal). We had a similar issue
in the past with {write|read}_msr_safe and this fills the three
missing ones. The other bug-fix is to make the console output (hvc)
be capable of dealing with misbehaving backends and not fall flat on
its face. Lastly, a quirk for older XenBus implementations that came
with an ancient v3.4 hypervisor (so RHEL5 based) - reading of certain
non-existent attributes just hangs the guest during bootup - so we
take precaution of not doing that on such older installations.
Feature:
- Register a pfn_is_ram helper to speed up reading of /proc/vmcore.
Bug-fixes:
- Three pvops call for Xen were undefined causing BUG_ONs.
- Add a quirk so that the shutdown watches (used by kdump) are not
used with older Xen (3.4).
- Fix ungraceful state transition for the HVC console."
* tag 'stable/for-linus-3.7-rc0-tag' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/konrad/xen:
xen/pv-on-hvm kexec: add quirk for Xen 3.4 and shutdown watches.
xen/bootup: allow {read|write}_cr8 pvops call.
xen/bootup: allow read_tscp call for Xen PV guests.
xen pv-on-hvm: add pfn_is_ram helper for kdump
xen/hvc: handle backend CLOSED without CLOSING

We actually do not do anything about it. Just return a default

This fixes the case when an user tries to suspend the machine
and it blows up in save_processor_state b/c 'read_cr8' is set

The hypervisor will trap it. However without this patch,
we would crash as the .read_tscp is set to NULL. This patch
fixes it and sets it to the native_read_tscp call.

Register pfn_is_ram helper speed up reading /proc/vmcore in the kdump
kernel. See commit message of 997c136f518c ("fs/proc/vmcore.c: add hook
to read_from_oldmem() to check for non-ram pages") for details.
It makes use of a new hvmop HVMOP_get_mem_type which was introduced in
xen 4.2 (23298:26413986e6e0) and backported to 4.1.1.
The new function is currently only enabled for reading /proc/vmcore.
Later it will be used also for the kexec kernel. Since that requires
more changes in the generic kernel make it static for the time being.

CLOCK_TICK_RATE is used to accurately caclulate exactly how
a tick will be at a given HZ.
This is useful, because while we'd expect NSEC_PER_SEC/HZ,
the underlying hardware will have some granularity limit,
so we won't be able to have exactly HZ ticks per second.
This slight error can cause timekeeping quality problems
when using the jiffies or other jiffies driven clocksources.
Thus we currently use compile time CLOCK_TICK_RATE value to
generate SHIFTED_HZ and NSEC_PER_JIFFIES, which we then use
to adjust the jiffies clocksource to correct this error.
Unfortunately though, since CLOCK_TICK_RATE is a compile
time value, and the jiffies clocksource is registered very
early during boot, there are a number of cases where there
are different possible hardware timers that have different
tick rates. This causes problems in cases like ARM where
there are numerous different types of hardware, each having
their own compile-time CLOCK_TICK_RATE, making it hard to
accurately support different hardware with a single kernel.
For the most part, this doesn't matter all that much, as not
too many systems actually utilize the jiffies or jiffies driven
clocksource. Usually there are other highres clocksources
who's granularity error is negligable.
Even so, we have some complicated calcualtions that we do
everywhere to handle these edge cases.
This patch removes the compile time SHIFTED_HZ value, and
introduces a register_refined_jiffies() function. This results
in the default jiffies clock as being assumed a perfect HZ
freq, and allows archtectures that care about jiffies accuracy
to call register_refined_jiffies() with the tick rate, specified
dynamically at boot.
This allows us, where necessary, to not have a compile time
CLOCK_TICK_RATE constant, simplifies the jiffies code, and
still provides a way to have an accurate jiffies clock.
NOTE: Since this patch does not add register_refinied_jiffies()
calls for every arch, it may cause time quality regressions
in some cases. Its likely these will not be noticable, but
if they are an issue, adding the following to the end of
setup_arch() should resolve the regression:
register_refinied_jiffies(CLOCK_TICK_RATE)

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/mchehab/linux-media
Pull second set of media updates from Mauro Carvalho Chehab:
"Despite its size, most of the stuff here is trivial. This series
contains:
- s5p-mfc: additions at the driver and at the core to support H.264
hardware codec;
- Some improvements at s5p and davinci embedded drivers;
- Some V4L2 compliance fixes applied on a few drivers;
- Several random trivial patches, including several fixes and a few
new board support additions;
Notes:
1) Some Exynos media patches were dependent on some -arm fixes that
got merged on changeset 782cd9e. That's why this pull request is
based that changeset.
2) As promised, I reviewed the pending VB2 DMABUF series.
While setting a test environment, it was noticed that the upstream
support for Samsung Exynos 4 boards (smdk310 and Origen) are
broken upstream, likely due to regressions: both defconfigs are
wrong and regulator settings for both boards are broken. That,
allied with some bug at the dummy regulator driver, causes OOPSes
during boot time.
Long story short: even fixing the above, the proposed patches
OOPSed when running the DMABUF test. Not sure yet if the OOPSes
are due to some other undetected regressions, or due to some bug
on the patches.
Due to the above, DMABUF patches for vb2 got NACKed for 3.7."

vpif_display relied on a 1-1 mapping of output and subdev. This is not
necessarily the case. Separate the two. So there is a list of subdevs
and a list of outputs. Each output refers to a subdev and has routing
information. An output does not have to have a subdev.
The initial output for each channel is set to the fist output.
Currently missing is support for associating multiple subdevs with
an output.

Pull second set of pinctrl patches from Linus Walleij:
"Here is a late pinctrl pull request with stuff that wasn't quite
tested at the first pull request.
The main reason to not hold off is that the modifications to
irq_domain_add_simple() as reviewed by Rob Herring introduce new
infrastructure for irqdomains that will be useful for the next cycle:
instead of sprinkling irq descriptor allocation all over the kernel
wherever a "legacy" domain is registered, which is necessary for any
platform using sparse IRQs, and many irq chips are say GPIO
controllers which may be used with several systems, some with sparse
IRQs some not, we push this into the irq_domain_add_simple() so we can
atleast do mistakes in one place.
The irq_domain_add_simple() is currently unused in the kernel, so I
need to provide a user. The Nomadik stuff that goes with are changes
to the driver I use day-to-day to make use of this facility (and a
dependency), so see it as a way to eat my own dogfood: if this blows
up the egg hits my face.
A second round of pinctrl patches for v3.7:
- Complement the Nomadik pinctrl driver with alternate Cx functions
so it handles all oddities.
- A patch to the IRQdomain to reform the simple irqdomain to handle
IRQ descriptor allocation dynamically.
- Use the above feature in the Nomadik pin controller."

Upgrade nomadik pinctrl driver to enable selection of other
alternate-C[1-4] functions on some specific ux500 SoC pins.
Handling of those functions is done thanks to PRCM GPIOCR
registers. This was previously managed in PRCMU driver and
it was not really convenient. Idea is to provide a common
way to control all alternate functions.
Note that this improvement does not support the old-fashioned way
used to control nomadik pins, namely the "nmk_config_pin()" function
and its derivatives.

Michael Olbrich reported that his test program fails when built with
-O2 -mcpu=cortex-a8 -mfpu=neon, and a kernel which supports v6 and v7
CPUs:
volatile int x = 2;
volatile int64_t y = 2;
int main() {
volatile int a = 0;
volatile int64_t b = 0;
while (1) {
a = (a + x) % (1 << 30);
b = (b + y) % (1 << 30);
assert(a == b);
}
}
and two instances are run. When built for just v7 CPUs, this program
works fine. It uses the "vadd.i64 d19, d18, d16" VFP instruction.
It appears that we do not save the high-16 double VFP registers across
context switches when the kernel is built for v6 CPUs. Fix that.

It appears that performing a "movs pc, lr" to force the kernel into
SVC mode on the OMAP2420 (ARM1136) prevents the platform from booting
correctly (change introduced in 80c59da [ARM: virt: allow the kernel
to be entered in HYP mode]).
While the reason it fails is not understood yet (the same code runs
fine on the OMAP2430, ARM1136 as well), partially revert that change
for platforms that do not enter in HYP mode, preserving the new
feature and restoring a working kernel on the OMAP2420.

The zImage loader needs to turn on the MMU in order to take
advantage of caching while decompressing the zImage. Running this
in hyp mode would require the LPAE pagetable format to be
supported; to avoid this complexity, this patch switches out of hyp
mode, and returns back to hyp mode just before booting the kernel.
This implementation assumes that the Hyp mode view of memory and the
PL1 view of memory are coherent, providing that the MMU and caches
are off in both, as required by the boot protocol. The zImage
decompression code must drain the write buffer on completion anyway, and
entry into Hyp mode should flush any prefetch buffer, avoiding hazards
associated with local write buffers and the pipeline.

This patch does two things:
* Ensure that asynchronous aborts are masked at kernel entry.
The bootloader should be masking these anyway, but this reduces
the damage window just in case it doesn't.
* Enter svc mode via exception return to ensure that CPU state is
properly serialised. This does not matter when switching from
an ordinary privileged mode ("PL1" modes in ARMv7-AR rev C
parlance), but it potentially does matter when switching from a
another privileged mode such as hyp mode.
This should allow the kernel to boot safely either from svc mode or
hyp mode, even if no support for use of the ARM Virtualization
Extensions is built into the kernel.

The ARMv7 processor setup function __v7_setup() cleans and invalidates the
CPU cache before enabling MMU to start the CPU with a clean CPU local cache.
But on ARMv7 architectures like Cortex-[A15/A8], this code will end
up flushing the L2 caches(up to level of Coherency) which is undesirable
and expensive. The setup functions are used in the CPU hotplug scenario too
and hence flushing all cache levels should be avoided.
This patch replaces the cache flushing call with the newly introduced
v7 dcache LoUIS API where only cache levels up to LoUIS are cleaned and
invalidated when a processors executes __v7_setup which is the expected
behavior.
For processors like A9 and A5 where the L2 cache is an outer one the
behavior should be unchanged.

When a CPU is hotplugged out caches that reside in its power domain
lose their contents and so must be cleaned to the next memory level.
Currently, __cpu_disable calls flush_cache_all() that for new generation
processor like A15/A7 ends up cleaning and invalidating all cache levels
up to Level of Coherency, which includes the unified L2.
This ends up being a waste of cycles since the L2 cache contents are not
lost on power down.
This patch updates __cpu_disable to use the new LoUIS API cache operations.

In processors like A15/A7 L2 cache is unified and integrated within the
processor cache hierarchy, so that it is not considered an outer cache
anymore. For processors like A15/A7 flush_cache_all() ends up cleaning
all cache levels up to Level of Coherency (LoC) that includes
the L2 unified cache.
When a single CPU is suspended (CPU idle) a complete L2 clean is not
required, so generic cpu_suspend code must clean the data cache using the
newly introduced cache LoUIS function.
The context and stack pointer (context pointer) are cleaned to main memory
using cache area functions that operate on MVA and guarantee that the data
is written back to main memory (perform cache cleaning up to the Point of
Coherency - PoC) so that the processor can fetch the context when the MMU
is off in the cpu_resume code path.
outer_cache management remains unchanged.

ARM v7 architecture introduced the concept of cache levels and related
control registers. New processors like A7 and A15 embed an L2 unified cache
controller that becomes part of the cache level hierarchy. Some operations in
the kernel like cpu_suspend and __cpu_disable do not require a flush of the
entire cache hierarchy to DRAM but just the cache levels belonging to the
Level of Unification Inner Shareable (LoUIS), which in most of ARM v7 systems
correspond to L1.
The current cache flushing API used in cpu_suspend and __cpu_disable,
flush_cache_all(), ends up flushing the whole cache hierarchy since for
v7 it cleans and invalidates all cache levels up to Level of Coherency
(LoC) which cripples system performance when used in hot paths like hotplug
and cpuidle.
Therefore a new kernel cache maintenance API must be added to cope with
latest ARM system requirements.
This patch adds flush_cache_louis() to the ARM kernel cache maintenance API.
This function cleans and invalidates all data cache levels up to the
Level of Unification Inner Shareable (LoUIS) and invalidates the instruction
cache for processors that support it (> v7).
This patch also creates an alias of the cache LoUIS function to flush_kern_all
for all processor versions prior to v7, so that the current cache flushing
behaviour is unchanged for those processors.
v7 cache maintenance code implements a cache LoUIS function that cleans and
invalidates the D-cache up to LoUIS and invalidates the I-cache, according
to the new API.
