| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Less code ftw. This converts all drivers except the tinydrm helper module. That one needs more work, since it gets the THIS_MODULE reference from tinydrm.ko instead of the actual driver module like it should. Probably needs a similar trick like I used here with generating the entire struct with a macro. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The drm driver .load() operation is prone to race conditions as it initializes the driver after registering the device nodes. Its usage is deprecated, inline it in the probe function and call drm_dev_alloc() and drm_dev_register() explicitly. For consistency inline the .unload() handler in the remove function as well. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The vblank hooks in struct drm_driver are deprecated and only meant for legacy drivers. For modern drivers with DRIVER_MODESET flag, the hooks in struct drm_crtc_funcs should be used instead. As the result, shmob_drm_crtc_enable_vblank() becomes a static function, although it gets moved around a bit to save forward declaration. * | drm: remove drm_vblank_no_hw_counter assignment from driver codeShawn Guo2017-02-071-1/+0Star
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Core code already makes drm_driver.get_vblank_counter hook optional by letting drm_vblank_no_hw_counter be the default implementation for the function hook. * drm: Lobotomize set_busid nonsense for !pci driversDaniel Vetter2016-06-211-1/+0Star
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We already have a fallback in place to fill out the unique from dev->unique, which is set to something reasonable in drm_dev_alloc. Which means we only need to have a special set_busid for pci devices, to be able to care the backwards compat code for drm 1.1 around, which libdrm still needs. While developing and testing this patch things blew up in really interesting ways, and the code is rather confusing in naming things between the kernel code, ioctl #defines and libdrm. For the next brave dragon slayer, document all this madness properly in the userspace interface section of gpu.tmpl. v2: Make drm_dev_set_unique static and update kerneldoc. v3: Entire rewrite, plus document what's going on for posterity in the gpu docbook uapi section. v4: Drop accidental amdgpu hunk (Emil). v5: Drop accidental omapdrm vblank counter change (Emil). v6: Rebase on top of the sphinx conversion. * drm: Stop using drm_vblank_count() as the hw frame counterVille Syrjälä2015-10-071-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | drm_vblank_count() returns the software counter. We should not pretend it's the hw counter since we use the hw counter to figuere out what the software counter value should be. So instead provide a new function drm_vblank_no_hw_counter() for drivers that don't have a real hw counter. The new function simply returns 0, which is about the only thing it can do. * drm: add driver->set_busid() callbackDavid Herrmann2014-09-101-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | One step closer to dropping all the drm_bus_* code: Add a driver->set_busid() callback and make all drivers use the generic helpers. Nouveau is the only driver that uses two different bus-types with the same drm_driver. This is totally broken if both buses are available on the same machine (unlikely, but lets be safe). Therefore, we create two different drivers for each platform during module_init() and set the set_busid() callback respectively. | | | | | | | | | | | | | Unfortunately this requires a drm-wide change, and I didn't see a sane way around that. * drm: remove FASYNC supportDaniel Vetter2013-08-191-1/+0Star
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | So I've stumbled over drm_fasync and wondered what it does. Digging that up is quite a story. First I've had to read up on what this does and ended up being rather bewildered why peopled loved signals so much back in the days that they've created SIGIO just for that ... Then I wondered how this ever works, and what that strange "No-op." comment right above it should mean. After all calling the core fasync helper is pretty obviously not a noop. After reading through the kernels FASYNC implementation I've noticed that signals are only sent out to the processes attached with FASYNC by calling kill_fasync. No merged drm driver has ever done that. After more digging I've found out that the only driver that ever used this is the so called GAMMA driver. I've frankly never heard of such a gpu brand ever before. Now FASYNC seems to not have been the only bad thing with that driver, since Dave Airlie removed it from the drm driver with prejudice: commit 1430163b4bbf7b00367ea1066c1c5fe85dbeefed Author: Dave Airlie <airlied@linux.ie> Date: Sun Aug 29 12:04:35 2004 +0000 Drop GAMMA DRM from a great height ... Long story short, the drm fasync support seems to be doing absolutely nothing. And the only user of it was never merged into the upstream kernel. And we don't need any fops->fasync callback since the fcntl implementation in the kernel already implements the noop case correctly. So stop this particular cargo-cult and rip it all out. v2: Kill drm_fasync assignments in rcar (newly added) and imx drivers (somehow I've missed that one in staging). Also drop the reference in the drm DocBook. ARM compile-fail reported by Rob Clark. v3: Move the removal of dev->buf_asnyc assignment in drm_setup to this patch here. v4: Actually git add ... tsk. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | All the gem based kms drivers really want the same function to destroy a dumb framebuffer backing storage object.
