| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | For the s626 driver, there is a bug in the handling of asynchronous commands on the AI subdevice when the stop source is `TRIG_NONE`. The command should run continuously until cancelled, but the interrupt handler stops the command running after the first scan. The command set-up function `s626_ai_cmd()` contains this code: switch (cmd->stop_src) { case TRIG_COUNT: /* data arrives as one packet */ devpriv->ai_sample_count = cmd->stop_arg; devpriv->ai_continous = 0; break; case TRIG_NONE: /* continous acquisition */ devpriv->ai_continous = 1; devpriv->ai_sample_count = 0; break; } The interrupt handler `s626_irq_handler()` contains this code: if (!(devpriv->ai_continous)) devpriv->ai_sample_count--; if (devpriv->ai_sample_count <= 0) { devpriv->ai_cmd_running = 0; /* ... */ } So `devpriv->ai_sample_count` is only decremented for the `TRIG_COUNT` case, but `devpriv->ai_cmd_running` is set to 0 (and the command stopped) regardless. Fix this in `s626_ai_cmd()` by setting `devpriv->ai_sample_count = 1` for the `TRIG_NONE` case. The interrupt handler will not decrement it so it will remain greater than 0 and the check for stopping the acquisition will fail. This patch preserves those. * drv_insert_node_res_element() returns -ENOMEM on alloc failure, -EFAULT if id space is exhausted. -EFAULT is at best misleading. * drv_proc_insert_strm_res_element() is even weirder. It returns -EFAULT if kzalloc() fails, -ENOMEM if idr preloading fails and -EPERM if id space is exhausted. What's going on here? * drv_proc_insert_strm_res_element() doesn't free *pstrm_res after failure. Only compile tested. |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Modify the request_module to prefix the file system type with "fs-" and add aliases to all of the filesystems that can be built as modules to match. A common practice is to build all of the kernel code and leave code that is not commonly needed as modules, with the result that many users are exposed to any bug anywhere in the kernel. Looking for filesystems with a fs- prefix limits the pool of possible modules that can be loaded by mount to just filesystems trivially making things safer with no real cost. Using aliases means user space can control the policy of which filesystem modules are auto-loaded by editing /etc/modprobe.d/*.conf with blacklist and alias directives. Allowing simple, safe, well understood work-arounds to known problematic software. This also addresses a rare but unfortunate problem where the filesystem name is not the same as it's module name and module auto-loading would not work. While writing this patch I saw a handful of such cases. The most significant being autofs that lives in the module autofs4. This is relevant to user namespaces because we can reach the request module in get_fs_type() without having any special permissions, and people get uncomfortable when a user specified string (in this case the filesystem type) goes all of the way to request_module. After having looked at this issue I don't think there is any particular reason to perform any filtering or permission checks beyond making it clear in the module request that we want a filesystem module. The common pattern in the kernel is to call request_module() without regards to the users permissions. In general all a filesystem module does once loaded is call register_filesystem() and go to sleep. Which means there is not much attack surface exposed by loading a filesytem module unless the filesystem is mounted. In a user namespace filesystems are not mounted unless .fs_flags = FS_USERNS_MOUNT, which most filesystems do not set today. I'm not quite sure. Not only they don't really need it, it also prevents the iterator from looking exactly like the list iterator, which is unfortunate. Besides the semantic patch, there was some manual work required: - Fix up the actual hlist iterators in linux/list.h - Fix up the declaration of other iterators based on the hlist ones. - A very small amount of places were using the 'node' parameter, this was modified to use 'obj->member' instead. - Coccinelle didn't handle the hlist_for_each_entry_safe iterator properly, so those had to be fixed up manually. On resume, the DMM resume handler will first reprogram the LUT to point to the dummy page. The subsequent resume handler in the omapdrm will call into the DMM and reprogram each of the buffer objects. This will ensure that all of the necessary objects will be pinned into the DMM properly. Order of suspend/resume handlers is done by device creation. We create the DMM device before the omapdrm, so the correct order is maintained. These framebuffers will be reaped when their assoiciated fb is closed. Now these two cases are set up differently, the framebuffers are on different lists and hence destruction needs to clean up different things. Also, for userspace framebuffers we remove them from any current usage, whereas for internal framebuffers it is assumed that the driver has done this already. Long story short, we need two different ways to cleanup such drivers. Three functions are involved in total: - drm_framebuffer_remove: Convenience function which removes the fb from all active usage and then drops the passed-in reference. - drm_framebuffer_unregister_private: Will remove driver-private framebuffers from relevant lists and drop the corresponding references. Should be called for driver-private framebuffers before dropping the last reference (or like for a lot of the drivers where the fbdev is embedded someplace else, before doing the cleanup manually). - drm_framebuffer_cleanup: Final cleanup for both classes of fbs, should be called by the driver's ->destroy callback once the last reference is gone. This patch just rolls out the new interfaces and updates all drivers (by adding calls to drm_framebuffer_unregister_private at all the right places)- no functional changes yet. Follow-on patches will move drm core code around and update the lifetime management for framebuffers, so that we are no longer required to keep framebuffers alive by locking mode_config.mutex. I've also updated the kerneldoc already. vmwgfx seems to again be a bit special, at least I haven't figured out how the fbdev support in that driver works. The goal here is that framebuffer objects can survive outside of the mode_config lock, with just a reference held as protection. The first step to get there is to introduce a special fb_lock which protects fb lookup, creation and destruction, to make them appear atomic. This new fb_lock can nest within the mode_config lock. But the idea is (once the reference counting part is completed) that we only quickly take that fb_lock to lookup a framebuffer and grab a reference, without any other locks involved. vmwgfx is the only driver which does framebuffer lookups itself, also wrap those calls to drm_mode_object_find with the new lock. Also protect the fb_list walking in i915 and omapdrm with the new lock. As a slight complication there's also the list of user-created fbs attached to the file private. The problem now is that at fclose() time we need to walk that list, eventually do a modeset call to remove the fb from active usage (and are required to be able to take the mode_config lock), but in the end we need to grab the new fb_lock to remove the fb from the list. The easiest solution is to add another mutex to protect this per-file list. Currently that new fbs_lock nests within the modeset locks and so appears redudant. But later patches will switch around this sequence so that taking the modeset locks in the fb destruction path is optional in the fastpath. Ultimately the goal is that addfb and rmfb do not require the mode_config lock, since otherwise they have the potential to introduce stalls in the pageflip sequence of a compositor (if the compositor e.g. switches to a fullscreen client or if it enables a plane). But that requires a few more steps and hoops to jump through. Note that framebuffer creation/destruction is now double-protected - once by the fb_lock and in parts by the idr_lock. The later would be unnecessariy if framebuffers would have their own idr allocator. But that's material for another patch (series). v2: Properly initialize the fb->filp_head list in _init, otherwise the newly added WARN to check whether the fb isn't on a fpriv list any more will fail for driver-private objects. v3: Fixup two error-case unlock bugs spotted by Richard Wilbur.
