* [XFRM]: Allow packet drops during larval state resolution.David S. Miller2007-05-251-2/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The current IPSEC rule resolution behavior we have does not work for a lot of people, even though technically it's an improvement from the -EAGAIN buisness we had before. Right now we'll block until the key manager resolves the route. That works for simple cases, but many folks would rather packets get silently dropped until the key manager resolves the IPSEC rules. We can't tell these folks to "set the socket non-blocking" because they don't have control over the non-block setting of things like the sockets used to resolve DNS deep inside of the resolver libraries in libc. With that in mind I coded up the patch below with some help from Herbert Xu which provides packet-drop behavior during larval state resolution, controllable via sysctl and off by default. This lays the framework to either: 1) Make this default at some point or... 2) Move this logic into xfrm{4,6}_policy.c and implement the ARP-like resolution queue we've all been dreaming of. The idea would be to queue packets to the policy, then once the larval state is resolved by the key manager we re-resolve the route and push the packets out. The packets would timeout if the rule didn't get resolved in a certain amount of time. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [NET]: cleanup extra semicolonsStephen Hemminger2007-04-261-6/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | Spring cleaning time... There seems to be a lot of places in the network code that have extra bogus semicolons after conditionals. Most commonly is a bogus semicolon after: switch() { } Signed-off-by: Stephen Hemminger <shemminger@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [NET]: Treat CHECKSUM_PARTIAL as CHECKSUM_UNNECESSARYHerbert Xu2007-04-261-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | When a transmitted packet is looped back directly, CHECKSUM_PARTIAL maps to the semantics of CHECKSUM_UNNECESSARY. Therefore we should treat it as such in the stack. Signed-off-by: Herbert Xu <herbert@gondor.apana.org.au> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [SK_BUFF]: Convert skb->tail to sk_buff_data_tArnaldo Carvalho de Melo2007-04-261-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | So that it is also an offset from skb->head, reduces its size from 8 to 4 bytes on 64bit architectures, allowing us to combine the 4 bytes hole left by the layer headers conversion, reducing struct sk_buff size to 256 bytes, i.e. 4 64byte cachelines, and since the sk_buff slab cache is SLAB_HWCACHE_ALIGN... :-) Many calculations that previously required that skb->{transport,network, mac}_header be first converted to a pointer now can be done directly, being meaningful as offsets or pointers. * [SK_BUFF]: unions of just one member don't get anything done, kill themArnaldo Carvalho de Melo2007-04-261-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | Renaming skb->h to skb->transport_header, skb->nh to skb->network_header and skb->mac to skb->mac_header, to match the names of the associated helpers (skb[_[re]set]_{transport,network,mac}_header). Signed-off-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_network_header_lenArnaldo Carvalho de Melo2007-04-261-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | For the common sequence "skb->h.raw - skb->nh.raw", similar to skb->mac_len, that is precalculated tho, don't think we need to bloat skb with one more member, so just use this new helper, reducing the number of non-skbuff.h references to the layer headers even more. Signed-off-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_transport_header(skb)Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo2007-04-261-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | For the places where we need a pointer to the transport header, it is still legal to touch skb->h.raw directly if just adding to, subtracting from or setting it to another layer header. Signed-off-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_transport_offset()Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo2007-04-261-2/+2
| | | | | | | For the quite common 'skb->h.raw - skb->data' sequence. Signed-off-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [SK_BUFF]: Introduce ipv6_hdr(), remove skb->nh.ipv6hArnaldo Carvalho de Melo2007-04-261-8/+9
| | | | | | | | | | Now the skb->nh union has just one member, .raw, i.e. it is just like the skb->mac union, strange, no? I'm just leaving it like that till the transport layer is done with, when we'll rename skb->mac.raw to skb->mac_header (or ->mac_header_offset?), ditto for ->{h,nh}. Signed-off-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_network_header()Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo2007-04-261-2/+3
| | | | | | | | | For the places where we need a pointer to the network header, it is still legal to touch skb->nh.raw directly if just adding to, subtracting from or setting it to another layer header. Signed-off-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [SK_BUFF] ipv6: More skb_reset_network_header conversions related to skb_pullArnaldo Carvalho de Melo2007-04-261-1/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Now related to this form: skb->nh.ipv6h = (struct ipv6hdr *)skb_put(skb, length); That, as the others, is done when skb->tail is still equal to skb->data, making the conversion to skb_reset_network_header possible. Also one more case equivalent to skb->nh.raw = skb->data, of this form: iph = (struct ipv6hdr *)skb->data; <SNIP> skb->nh.ipv6h = iph; Signed-off-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. * [PATCH] remove many unneeded #includes of sched.hTim Schmielau2007-02-141-1/+0Star
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes. There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the course of cleaning it up. To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble. Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha, arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig, allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted by unnecessarily included header files). * [PATCH] mark struct file_operations const 7Arjan van de Ven2007-02-121-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | Many struct file_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Add checksum default defines for mobility header(MH) which goes through raw socket. As the result kernel's behavior is to handle MH checksum as default. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When a packet is obtained from skb_recv_datagram with MSG_PEEK enabled it is left on the socket receive queue. This means that when we detect a checksum error we have to be careful when trying to free the packet as someone could have dequeued it in the time being. Currently this delicate logic is duplicated three times between UDPv4, UDPv6 and RAWv6. This patch moves them into a one place and simplifies the code somewhat. I've converted every spot under net/ that does RX checksum checks to use skb_checksum_complete or __skb_checksum_complete with the exceptions of: * Those places where checksums are done bit by bit. * | [NETFILTER]: Add nf_conntrack subsystem.Yasuyuki Kozakai2005-11-101-1/+3
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The existing connection tracking subsystem in netfilter can only handle ipv4. There were basically two choices present to add connection tracking support for ipv6. We could either duplicate all of the ipv4 connection tracking code into an ipv6 counterpart, or (the choice taken by these patches) we could design a generic layer that could handle both ipv4 and ipv6 and thus requiring only one sub-protocol (TCP, UDP, etc.) connection tracking helper module to be written. In fact nf_conntrack is capable of working with any layer 3 protocol. The existing ipv4 specific conntrack code could also not deal with the pecularities of doing connection tracking on ipv6, which is also cured here. For example, these issues include: 1) ICMPv6 handling, which is used for neighbour discovery in ipv6 thus some messages such as these should not participate in connection tracking since effectively they are like ARP messages 2) fragmentation must be handled differently in ipv6, because the simplistic "defrag, connection track and NAT, refrag" (which the existing ipv4 connection tracking does) approach simply isn't feasible in ipv6 3) ipv6 extension header parsing must occur at the correct spots before and after connection tracking decisions, and there were no provisions for this in the existing connection tracking design 4) ipv6 has no need for stateful NAT The ipv4 specific conntrack layer is kept around, until all of the ipv4 specific conntrack helpers are ported over to nf_conntrack and it is feature complete. Once that occurs, the old conntrack stuff will get placed into the feature-removal-schedule and we will fully kill it off 6 months later.
