* sysemu: Split sysemu/runstate.h off sysemu/sysemu.hMarkus Armbruster2019-08-161-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | sysemu/sysemu.h is a rather unfocused dumping ground for stuff related to the system-emulator. Evidence: * It's included widely: in my "build everything" tree, changing sysemu/sysemu.h still triggers a recompile of some 1100 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h, down from 5400 due to the previous two commits). * It pulls in more than a dozen additional headers. Split stuff related to run state management into its own header sysemu/runstate.h. Touching sysemu/sysemu.h now recompiles some 850 objects. qemu/uuid.h also drops from 1100 to 850, and qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h from 4400 to 4200. Touching new sysemu/runstate.h recompiles some 500 objects. Since I'm touching MAINTAINERS to add sysemu/runstate.h anyway, also add qemu/main-loop.h. * Include hw/qdev-properties.h lessMarkus Armbruster2019-08-161-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In my "build everything" tree, changing hw/qdev-properties.h triggers a recompile of some 2700 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h). Many places including hw/qdev-properties.h (directly or via hw/qdev.h) actually need only hw/qdev-core.h. Include hw/qdev-core.h there instead. hw/qdev.h is actually pointless: all it does is include hw/qdev-core.h and hw/qdev-properties.h, which in turn includes hw/qdev-core.h. Replace the remaining uses of hw/qdev.h by hw/qdev-properties.h. While there, delete a few superfluous inclusions of hw/qdev-core.h. Touching hw/qdev-properties.h now recompiles some 1200 objects. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In my "build everything" tree, changing hw/hw.h triggers a recompile of some 2600 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h). * shutdown: Add source information to SHUTDOWN and RESETEric Blake2017-05-231-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Time to wire up all the call sites that request a shutdown or reset to use the enum added in the previous patch. It would have been less churn to keep the common case with no arguments as meaning guest-triggered, and only modified the host-triggered code paths, via a wrapper function, but then we'd still have to audit that I didn't miss any host-triggered spots; changing the signature forces us to double-check that I correctly categorized all callers. Since command line options can change whether a guest reset request causes an actual reset vs. a shutdown, it's easy to also add the information to reset requests. * migration: consolidate VMStateField.startHalil Pasic2017-02-131-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The member VMStateField.start is used for two things, partial data migration for VBUFFER data (basically provide migration for a sub-buffer) and for locating next in QTAILQ. The implementation of the VBUFFER feature is broken when VMSTATE_ALLOC is used. This however goes unnoticed because actually partial migration for VBUFFER is not used at all. Let's consolidate the usage of VMStateField.start by removing support for partial migration for VBUFFER. * Split ISA and sysbus versions of m48t59 deviceDavid Gibson2017-02-061-210/+18Star
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The m48t59 device supports both ISA and direct sysbus attached versions of the device in the one .c file. This can be awkward for some embedded machine types which need the sysbus M48T59, but don't want to pull in the ISA bus code and its other dependencies. Therefore, this patch splits out the code for the ISA attached M48T59 into its own C file. It will be built when both CONFIG_M48T59 and CONFIG_ISA_BUS are enabled. * include/qemu/osdep.h: Don't include qapi/error.hMarkus Armbruster2016-03-221-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit 57cb38b included qapi/error.h into qemu/osdep.h to get the Error typedef. Since then, we've moved to include qemu/osdep.h everywhere. Its file comment explains: "To avoid getting into possible circular include dependencies, this file should not include any other QEMU headers, with the exceptions of config-host.h, compiler.h, os-posix.h and os-win32.h, all of which are doing a similar job to this file and are under similar constraints." qapi/error.h doesn't do a similar job, and it doesn't adhere to similar constraints: it includes qapi-types.h. That's in excess of 100KiB of crap most .c files don't actually need. Add the typedef to qemu/typedefs.h, and include that instead of qapi/error.h. Include qapi/error.h in .c files that need it and don't get it now. Include qapi-types.h in qom/object.h for uint16List. Update scripts/clean-includes accordingly. Update it further to match reality: replace config.h by config-target.h, add sysemu/os-posix.h, sysemu/os-win32.h. Update the list of includes in the qemu/osdep.h comment quoted above similarly. This reduces the number of objects depending on qapi/error.h from "all of them" to less than a third. Unfortunately, the number depending on qapi-types.h shrinks only a little. More work is needed for that one. Signed-off-by: Markus Armbruster <armbru@redhat.com> [Fix compilation without the spice devel packages. - Paolo] Signed-off-by: Paolo Bonzini <pbonzini@redhat.com>

* qdev: Replace no_user by cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yetMarkus Armbruster2013-12-231-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In an ideal world, machines can be built by wiring devices together with configuration, not code. Unfortunately, that's not the world we live in right now. We still have quite a few devices that need to be wired up by code. If you try to device_add such a device, it'll fail in sometimes mysterious ways. If you're lucky, you get an unmysterious immediate crash. To protect users from such badness, DeviceClass member no_user used to make device models unavailable with -device / device_add, but that regressed in commit 18b6dad. The device model is still omitted from help, but is available anyway. Attempts to fix the regression have been rejected with the argument that the purpose of no_user isn't clear, and it's prone to misuse. This commit clarifies no_user's purpose. Anthony suggested to rename it cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet_due_to_internal_bugs, which I shorten somewhat to keep checkpatch happy. While there, make it bool. Every use of cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet gets a FIXME comment asking for rationale. The next few commits will clean them all up, either by providing a rationale, or by getting rid of the use. With that done, the regression fix is hopefully acceptable.
