* util/log: Support per-thread log filesRichard Henderson2022-04-201-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Add a new log flag, tid, to turn this feature on. Require the log filename to be set, and to contain %d. Do not allow tid to be turned off once it is on, nor let the filename be change thereafter. This avoids the need for signalling each thread to re-open on a name change. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | clang's C11 atomic_fetch_*() functions only take a C11 atomic type pointer argument. QEMU uses direct types (int, etc) and this causes a compiler error when a QEMU code calls these functions in a source file that also included <stdatomic.h> via a system header file: $ CC=clang CXX=clang++ ./configure ... && make ../util/async.c:79:17: error: address argument to atomic operation must be a pointer to _Atomic type ('unsigned int *' invalid) Avoid using atomic_*() names in QEMU's atomic.h since that namespace is used by <stdatomic.h>. Prefix QEMU's APIs with 'q' so that atomic.h and <stdatomic.h> can co-exist. I checked /usr/include on my machine and searched GitHub for existing "qatomic_" users but there seem to be none. This patch was generated using: $ git grep -h -o '\<atomic\(64\)\?_[a-z0-9_]\+' include/qemu/atomic.h | \ sort -u >/tmp/changed_identifiers $ for identifier in $(</tmp/changed_identifiers); do sed -i "s%\<$identifier\>%q$identifier%g" \ $(git grep -I -l "\<$identifier\>") done I manually fixed line-wrap issues and misaligned rST tables. * linux-user: Use `qemu_log' for straceJosh Kunz2020-02-191-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This change switches linux-user strace logging to use the newer `qemu_log` logging subsystem rather than the older `gemu_log` (notice the "g") logger. `qemu_log` has several advantages, namely that it allows logging to a file, and provides a more unified interface for configuration of logging (via the QEMU_LOG environment variable or options). This change introduces a new log mask: `LOG_STRACE` which is used for logging of user-mode strace messages. * Add use of RCU for qemu_logfile.Robert Foley2019-12-181-6/+35
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This now allows changing the logfile while logging is active, and also solves the issue of a seg fault while changing the logfile. Any read access to the qemu_logfile handle will use the rcu_read_lock()/unlock() around the use of the handle. To fetch the handle we will use atomic_rcu_read(). We also in many cases do a check for validity of the logfile handle before using it to deal with the case where the file is closed and set to NULL. The cases where we write to the qemu_logfile will use atomic_rcu_set(). Writers will also use call_rcu() with a newly added qemu_logfile_free function for freeing/closing when readers have finished. * qemu_log_lock/unlock now preserves the qemu_logfile handle.Robert Foley2019-12-181-3/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | qemu_log_lock() now returns a handle and qemu_log_unlock() receives a handle to unlock. This allows for changing the handle during logging and ensures the lock() and unlock() are for the same file. Also in target/tilegx/translate.c removed the qemu_log_lock()/unlock() calls (and the log("\n")), since the translator can longjmp out of the loop if it attempts to translate an instruction in an inaccessible page. * log-for-trace.h: Split out parts of log.h used by trace.hPeter Maydell2018-03-121-14/+4Star
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A persistent build problem we see is where a source file accidentally omits the #include of log.h. This slips through local developer testing because if you configure with the default (log) trace backend trace.h will pull in log.h for you. Compilation fails only if some other backend is selected. To make this error cause a compile failure regardless of the configured trace backend, split out the parts of log.h that trace.h requires into a new log-for-trace.h header. Since almost all manual uses of the log.h functions will use constants or functions which aren't in log-for-trace.h, this will let us catch missing #include "qemu/log.h" more consistently. * log: Add locking to large logging blocksRichard Henderson2016-11-011-0/+16
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Reuse the existing locking provided by stdio to keep in_asm, cpu, op, op_opt, op_ind, and out_asm as contiguous blocks. While it isn't possible to interleave e.g. in_asm or op_opt logs because of the TB lock protecting all code generation, it is possible to interleave cpu logs, or to interleave a cpu dump with an out_asm dump. For mingw32, we appear to have no viable solution for this. The locking functions are not properly exported from the system runtime library. * tcg: Lower indirect registers in a separate passRichard Henderson2016-08-051-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Rather than rely on recursion during the middle of register allocation, lower indirect registers to loads and stores off the indirect base into plain temps. For an x86_64 host, with sufficient registers, this results in identical code, modulo the actual register assignments. For an i686 host, with insufficient registers, this means that temps can be (temporarily) spilled to the stack in order to satisfy an allocation. This as opposed to the possibility of not being able to spill, to allocate a register for the indirect base, in order to perform a spill. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When qemu_set_log_filename() detects an invalid file name, it reports an error, closes the log file (if any), and starts logging to stderr (unless daemonized or nothing is being logged). | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Running barebox on qemu-system-mips* with '-d unimp' overloads stderr by very very many mips_cpu_handle_mmu_fault() messages: mips_cpu_handle_mmu_fault address=b80003fd ret 0 physical 00000000180003fd prot 3 mips_cpu_handle_mmu_fault address=a0800884 ret 0 physical 0000000000800884 prot 3 mips_cpu_handle_mmu_fault pc a080cd80 ad b80003fd rw 0 mmu_idx 0 So it's very difficult to find LOG_UNIMP message. The mips_cpu_handle_mmu_fault() messages appear on enabling ANY logging! It's not very handy. Adding separate log category for *_cpu_handle_mmu_fault() logging fixes the problem. * log: Change log_cpu_state[_mask]() argument to CPUStateAndreas Färber2013-07-091-5/+21
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Since commit 878096eeb278a8ac1ccd6667af73e026f29b4cf5 (cpu: Turn cpu_dump_{state,statistics}() into CPUState hooks) CPUArchState is no longer needed. Add documentation and make the functions available through qemu/log.h outside NEED_CPU_H to allow use in qom/cpu.c. Moving them to qom/cpu.h was not yet possible due to convoluted include paths, so that some devices grow an implicit and unneeded dependency on qom/cpu.h for now. * qemu-log: default to stderr for logging outputPeter Maydell2013-02-261-2/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Switch the default for qemu_log logging output from "/tmp/qemu.log" to stderr. This is an incompatible change in some sense, but logging is mostly used for debugging purposes so it shouldn't affect production use. The previous behaviour can be obtained by adding "-D /tmp/qemu.log" to the command line. This change requires us to: * update all the documentation/help text (we take the opportunity to smooth out minor inconsistencies between the phrasing in linux-user/bsd-user/system help messages) * make linux-user and bsd-user defer to qemu-log for the default logging destination rather than overriding it themselves * ensure that all logfile closing is done via qemu_log_close() and that that function doesn't close stderr as well as the obvious change to the behaviour of do_qemu_set_log() when no logfile name has been specified. * qemu-log: Remove qemu_log_try_set_file() and its usersPeter Maydell2013-02-231-8/+0Star
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Remove the function qemu_log_try_set_file() and its users (which are all in TCG code generation functions for various targets). This function was added to abstract out code which was originally written as "if (!logfile) logfile = stderr;" in order that BUG: case code which did an unguarded "fprintf(logfile, ...)" would not crash if debug logging was not enabled. Since those direct uses of logfile have also been abstracted away into qemu_log() calls which check for a NULL logfile, there is no need for the target-* files to mess with the user's chosen logging settings.
